VWELL InMotion kit review: dilators with spinning beads

This 5‑piece dilator set is a double threat, soothing the front door and "WOW"-ing the back door. Its strengths shine where the sun doesn't.

Sometimes, dilators can feel clinical, but VWELL's InMotion Advanced Wand Set puts the FUN back in pelvic floor function.

Like many dilator kits, they range from the size of a finger to the size of an average penis.

But these simple, slim, sleek staves carry a secret: the three biggest ones have several rows of spinning beads in the shaft. In other words, imagine the dildo and dilator equivalent to b‑Vibe's Rimming Plug, but with the beads covering more surface area.

What does that mean in use?

Effing magnets — how do they work? but instead of confused, I'm thrilled.

Benefits of using the VWELL InMotion dilator set

In a nutshell, the InMotion sensations are made for:

  • Therapeutic effect when used vaginally
  • Potentially greater relief and more fun than a standard, stationary dilator
  • Combining exquisitely fine surface sensations when used anally
  • An overall great package when you think of it as a penetration warmup kit with a little (or a lot) of something-something extra

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: while dilator sets are usually marketed for vaginal use, I think they're highly underrated for anal use. That's doubly true with the VWELL InMotion technology.

the vwell inmotion dilator set comes with a storage pouch, an english manual, one manual with translations, and five silicone dilators. two of them are full silicone, and the other three have mechanical components inside

We'll discuss both back door and front door usage in this post — including who would absolutely love the VWELL InMotion technology and who could take it or leave it.

This set was made for beginners and for those getting used to penetration again.

vwell inmotion step 1 dilator size comparison to finger

But let's get a bit more specific than "finger-sized to penis-sized" — here's how the dilators ramp up their sizes.

  • Step 1 – 0.70" maximum diameter x 4.15" long
  • Step 2 – 0.90" maximum diameter x 4.75" long
  • Step 3 – 1.10" maximum diameter x 5.35" long
    • 8 rows of little twirling beads, starting at 1" down from the tip
  • Step 4 – 1.30" maximum diameter x 5.85" long
    • 5 rows of spinning beads, starting at 1.5" down from the tip
  • Step 5 – 1.50" maximum diameter x 6.35" long
    • 5 rows of bigger spinning beads, starting at 2" down from the tip
    • By "bigger," I mean about the size of popcorn kernels

I can't emphasize this enough: I highly encourage you to start with a smaller size than what you're otherwise used to.

How do these dilators feel vaginally?

Even as someone used to penetration, the final step can surprisingly feel like a lot — sometimes too much. Steps 3–5 are quite firm, because they need a stable center for the beads to revolve around, and they're stick-straight.

Intellectually, I understand that adding another angle of movement and tissue manipulation can be super soothing and increase circulation. Viscerally, though, I'm left thinking, "Effing magnets — how do they work?"

Because, indeed, turning on the motor gives me that "it hurts so good" feeling when I press the beaded portion against the stubborn knot from my left side. It's more effective than just the broader phallic shape alone.

It doesn't feel like much up front — like I know something's there, but I can't 100% appreciate the intricacies of each pearl on the strand. It's more that the effect is:

  • Concentrated at very small points
  • Cumulative in caressing the muscles into relaxation
  • Breaks apart the "stickiness" that sometimes happens with chronic tension

Your mileage may vary! Proceed accordingly

When I cum on it, it's more because of a quirk with my own body where that specific muscle trigger point is super responsive — including to the sensory input of spinning beads and steady, firm pressure.

all five inmotion dilators arranged, with the three powered ones turned on to show the LED indicator

It's oddly overloading to me, hence "it hurts so good." I like the Flex wand a tad more for focused trigger point release, while dilators were made for 360-degree stretch.

I can't emphasize the context enough: not everyone's going to cum on the VWELL InMotion twirling motor when using them vaginally. I would guess that most won't.

However, many reviews on the VWELL website rave about the pleasurable sensations in addition to therapeutic maintenance. Those with chronic tension might respond to it differently (read: more dramatically) than someone whose default state is more relaxed.

Ready for TMI time?

It's kind of like — and this is a less sexy example — how my clenching is so bad that period blood usually just doesn't come out until I willingly relax, and it's been like that for almost two years. It's not unheard of among people built like me and with a similar trauma history, even though it's rare in the broader population.

So if you're like me and you're frustrated with how hard it is to find a pelvic floor therapist who understands, say, someone who's chronically clenched but strong and lifts heavy, you're not alone.

But also, there is an anatomical reason — at the tissue level — why the VWELL InMotion dilators feel more sensationally striking when used anally.

Soothing the front door and "WOW"-ing the back door. Its strengths shine where the sun doesn't.

Spinning beads on a dildo for anal use

Think about skimming your fingertip along your palm or other fingertips, compared to on your forearm. Or trying to read Braille with your elbow. Our fingers feel things in higher resolution due to specialized fine-touch receptors called Meissner corpuscles.

Other places with a great concentration of Meissner corpuscles include the lips, tongue, and yes, the anal opening. (Not as many in the vaginal opening.)

In plain English: the bootyhole can feel the VWELL InMotion beads revolving, and in greater detail, than the vagina can.

It makes sense why the b‑Vibe Rimming Plug was so popular — and one of the few anal toys I'd give a "OH FUCK YEAH!" instead of just "It does its job well."

a closer view of the vwell inmotion dilators

VWELL's InMotion dilator set gives you the spinning sensations in a slimmer but longer lingam.

b‑Vibe Rimming Plug vs. VWELL InMotion dilators

The Petite version of b‑Vibe's Rimming Plug has a maximum diameter of 1.4" and a neck diameter of 0.9" — meaning that to savor the spinning, you'd have to get past the thickest part.

I know some people are into that size, but the VWELL InMotion Step 3 size is smaller. This dilator with spinning beads is about 1" across and feels far less intimidating for me. It's not as tapered as the Rimming Plug Petite, but also, the kit comes with smaller dilators for warmup, anyway.

That points to some of the trade-offs VWELL makes to give similar sensations to the Rimming Plugs, but spread across multiple units at a similar price:

  • They're not as fancy in terms of having vibration or a remote control
  • There are fewer settings — 6 back-and-forth twirling bead options compared to b‑Vibe's 7 rimming modes and 6 vibrating modes.
  • One tapered rimming plug vs. two tiny dilators and three with spinning beads in graduated sizes

Maybe you prefer the set-and-forget feel of a butt plug, but I enjoy having more room to thrust the shaft while the pellets circle. It's an incredibly rare case where a butt toy on its own can make me cum without external clitoral contact.

Sensory overload — but savor every little shift more. It's also "Effing magnets — how do they work?" but instead of confused, I'm thrilled.

Again, your mileage may vary, but if you appreciate textures with your anal toys, VWELL's InMotion set might be a good fit for you.

VWELL InMotion spinning dilator beads vs. my walls

Now for a very (literally) pressing question: can the beads hold up against my walls? Short answer: yes, but only on the higher settings. The first one out of six stalls easily, especially when pushed up against the knot that needs to be kneaded the most.

That's another reason I'd more readily recommend the InMotion dilator set for general, broad pelvic floor tension with vaginal use or just for fun with anal use. (It's a lot harder for brute bootyhole force to stop the spinning than when I'm mashing it up against muscle AND bone.)

In other words: if you need a more localized and deep pressure for your vaginal walls, consider the vibrating VWELL Flex wand or the (even firmer) Intimate Rose. I like both the InMotion dilator kit and the Flex wand for different reasons.

My verdict on the VWELL InMotion dilators

I like the VWELL InMotion dilators for the front door.

I LOVE them for the back door, where the nerve bundles were made to feel every little shift.

In plain English: the bootyhole can feel the VWELL InMotion beads revolving, and in greater detail, than the vagina can.

Using the InMotion beads vaginally is therapeutic for me, but remember: I don't have vaginismus. I can insert things with little issue, but it's usually the trigger points at the sides that bother me. The VWELL InMotion dilators can help me there, but the Flex wand and Intimate Rose are more specialized for that.

a hand holding the two smallest dilators in the vwell inmotion set

I would, however, recommend using the InMotion dilators vaginally to someone with:

  • Broader clenching patterns
  • Diffuse soreness
  • Hopes for a sexual debut
  • Desire to maintain tissue elasticity through life changes — think perimenopause, post-surgery recovery, a neo-vagina after transitioning from male to female, etc.

This dilator kit helps me vaginally, but it's not 100% my type. I also wouldn't recommend it to those who need flexible or ergonomic dilators — apart from the first two sizes, these are RIGID.

Using it anally is where I'm actually excited and would reach for it recreationally. It does a lot with so little movement.

b‑Vibe's Rimming Plug shocked me with how it made me cum, but I gifted it to a friend because there was too much (mental) friction for me to get past the 1.4" maximum diameter.

VWELL's InMotion dilator set gives me similar sensations with smaller size options and potentially less warmup. It wasn't advertised for anal play, but I think it's splurgeworthy if you're exploring butt stuff or already know you enjoy rimming or fine textures.

If you're unsure, try a lightly textured butt plug, like the SelfDelve Fly Agaric, or just the tip of a tentacle dildo like this one from Fabled Toys.
